As stated elsewhere on this site, we require a specific course of training before placing an order. This is necessary because our casting technique is not based on the typical standards of slipper casting and neutral position posture of the foot and our orthotics do not utilize rear or forefoot posts for biomechanical corrections. A significant part of our training explains in detail why we do not follow these very familiar and traditional methods. We feel that our methods speak for themselves, but because we diverge from the mainstream many practitioners naturally want to understand why in context. Suffice it to say, for this introductory statement, that we took a different path because we found the traditional ways not nearly effective enough. Most of the major recent studies that have looked at the relative value of typical custom orthotics over either prefabs or other treatments have shown no benefit. Custom orthotics, considering their claims and higher costs, must present a clearly higher standard of care. We would like to share with you how to achieve this.

MASS Theory and Application

The foot is the body's interface with the most powerful force that effects our musculoskeletal system: gravity. Since 3.5 X Body Weight passes through the foot 10,000 X day, minor genetic or acquired mechanical imbalances act to create many deformities in the foot, ankle, knee, hip and back. Better than relieving the symptoms is addressing the disease. This full day course will teach you in practical, understandable, useable terms:

  • What are the thirty-five plus diagnoses that are mechanically caused
  • Why these deformities and diagnoses occur
  • How to evaluate your patient for them
  • Treatment with orthotics
  • When orthotics are appropriate
  • Comparison with previous methodology
  • Correct casting technique

  • Some of the Common Diagnoses Discussed:

Hallux Abducto Valgus (Bunion)

Dorsal Bunion

Plantar Fasciitis

Morton's Neuroma

Interphalangeal Sesamoids

Stress Fractures

Pinch Callus

Tibialis Anterior & Posterior Tendonitis (Shin Splints)

Metatarsal-Cuneiform Exostosis (Saddle Bone Deformity)

Tailor's Bunion

Metatarsalgia

Retro-Calcaneal Bursitis & Achilles Tendonitis

Lumbar Radiculopathy or Dorsal Nerve Root Compression

Greater Trochanteric Bursitis

Chondromalacia Patella (Patello-femoral Syndrome)

Accessory Navicular

Muscular Cramps: Foot & Leg

Sub-Calcaneal Bursitis

Lumbar Disc Compression & Herniation

Peroneal Tendonitis

Low Back Pain

Lateral Ankle Pain

Heel Spur

Sacroiliac Pain

Sub-Metatarsal Bursitis (Metatarsalgia)
Sciatica

There are two basic paths to become trained and certified in our technology:

1) Attend a seminar. Seminars are given throughout the year across the country, usually at state association meetings. Seminars have an advantage in that hands on training in the casting technique is available.

2) Request our training DVD (free). Podiatrists and Athletic Trainers also recieve free CME credits upon submission of a passing post test. We are both CPME (podiatry), BOC (athletic training) and ABC (CPed) approved educational providers. The DVD offers the convenience of self study and on-demand review of the material. To become certified, three casts that pass our inspection must be submitted. To preview the first half of this course, click here.
